'We play for leisure, not to look for enemies'

KUALA LUMPUR: More and more football matches in Malaysia are getting violent with the latest being an M5 League match in Putrajaya going viral.

This has led to Amateur Football League chairman Datuk Yusoff Mahadi calling for stricter safety measures by organising committees.

"The matter (M5 match) has been brought to the Police, so let them take the necessary action.

"We will see what steps need to be taken especially by the organisers," said Yusoff during the Dare to Dream programme, held in partnership with MBSB Bank and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC at the Tenby International School in Semenyih on yesterday.

"I hope the organisers will ensure tighter security to prevent similar incidents.

"We urge all teams to understand the spirit of football. We play for leisure, not to look for enemies or to fight.

"The players come to show their talent, so use the platform as best as possible.

"If they are involved in brawls, then maybe they'll be suspended and this would close their window of opportunity," said Yusoff.
