Past leaders built our unity

We have just celebrated Malaysia Day, the brainchild of first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.

Malaysians must realise that the progress and prosperity we enjoy today are due to the efforts and sacrifices of past leaders.

Their contribution have enabled all races to live in peace.

This is an appropriate time to remind the younger generation to look back at events leading to the formation of Malaysia.

History tells about man’s growth from barbarism to civilisation, ancient culture, rise and fall of nations, and the turning points in the lives of great men who shaped the destiny of the world.

It is said that the longer you look back, the farther you can look forward.

Needless to say, a deep knowledge of the past is vital for human development.

Of greater significance is the lesson we learn from past mistakes and the price we pay for ignoring them.
