Realigning Kuala Lumpur

A CITY that never sleeps, Kuala Lumpur has become the heartbeat of Malaysia, growing from a modest city into a vibrant and livelier place for city folk, thanks to the hard work of the relevant authorities.

To go beyond 2020, we welcome the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2040 (KLCP2040), spearheaded by the Federal Territories Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall which will ensure that the city stays relevant in the next 20 years and more.

KL has become a centre of attraction, not just to tourists and those living in the suburbs but also from other states as opportunities are aplenty here. Hence, it has to change for a better future and the authorities must look at, especially, the southern part of the city which has plenty of untapped resources for future development.

KL must sustain its ability to stay vibrant with proper planning, resulting in a more holistic and balanced development and the KLCP2040 is a perfect plan to achieve all these.

A well-connected public transport is able to take cars off congested roads; self-contained housing estates comprising shopping complexes and well-maintained parks will surely attract more to live within the city.

We do not want Kuala Lumpur to be vibrant only during the day. It has to be a city that never sleeps.

New development, both in housing and infrastructure, will draw suburbans to make the city livelier in the evening. Economic growth, job opportunities and recreational areas which are maintained regularly are a must in any dynamic city.

The city needs to be realigned to cater to the growing number of dwellers in the next 20 years. There are skyscrapers everywhere but skyscrapers alone do not build a city.

It is the people, proper planning and efficient public transport that make a liveable city.

Hence, the Kuala Lumpur City Plan2040 is timely to realign the city to become a world-class work and liveable destination.

The people must support this noble move and give their constructive input, not just the KLites but all Malaysians, because the city belongs to all.
