Medical system devoid of compassion

LETTERS: Several months ago, my daughter-in-law was sent to a public hospital to undergo some medical tests but instead was admitted as a suspected Covid-19 patient.

They put her in a ward along with other Covid-19 patients. My son told the hospital administrator that he would take legal action against it and the doctor in charge if she contracted the virus.

After undergoing several Covid-19 tests, they discharged her. They did not look into any other medical issues. A week later, she was admitted to a Covid-19 treatment centre and had to go through more Covid-19 tests but was once again released.

After another week or so, she went to another public hospital to undergo a medical test, which confirmed that she had an advanced stage of intestinal cancer. The disease had spread to her liver and kidneys.

On Friday, my son told me that she was in a critical state and that the doctor had said to hope for the best. She passed away the same day.

What I find most disturbing is that my son was not allowed to see his wife for the last time. She was not even allowed to use her mobile phone to contact her loved ones. Can you imagine!

She was not a Covid-19 patient. She was an ordinary patient in a non-Covid-19 ward, and yet her husband was not allowed to say a word to his beloved and dying wife. Just what kind of medical system do we have?

It is a system devoid of compassion, which indicates incompetence on the part of the Health Ministry. My daughter-in-law was given a burial at her brother's place in Klang, Selangor, on Friday.

That was the only time when my family and relatives, including her children, could see her since her hospitalisation. Can you imagine how angry everyone was?
