Educators must 'R.I.S.E' to the challenge

AS the world celebrates Teachers Day tomorrow, I would like to share some ideas to increase the quality of teaching and learning sessions using the R.I.S.E. (Rectify-Improve-Supervise-Enjoy) strategy.

RECTIFY, the first keyword, emphasises the role of the Education Ministry in addressing the shortage of teachers for certain subjects in schools.

Some teachers, who are skilled in a different field, end up teaching a subject that is not their forte. As a result, some experience burnout as they fail to meet expectations.

Thus, the government needs to identify the subjects with insufficient teachers and recruit new teachers who have been trained in teaching institutions, whether public or private universities.

IMPROVE, the second key word, focuses on the role of teachers as planners who should believe that it is never too late to try something new. With passion and patience, teachers will grow professionally and personally when they embrace lifelong learning.

In this technology-centric world, it is important for young and senior teachers to improve their computer literacy skills so that they can use trendy applications to vary teaching techniques and increase students' interest in learning.

SUPERVISE, the third key word, focuses on the role of parents in ensuring a smooth process of learning at home. Parents need to be around when children complete homework and do revisions.

The involvement of parents in children's education would help with the parent-child relationship, as children would feel loved and cared for.

ENJOY, the last key word, suggests turning extroverted and introverted students into enthusiastic learners.

For those who are involved in the education sector, let's push forward for the new adventure ahead by applying the R.I.S.E. approach.
