PROPERTY buyers instinctively go for mature areas with lots of facilities and conveniences when choosing an ideal house for their own stay or for investment.
However, according to Feng Shui, not all convenient facilities within close proximity to a chosen property have positive outcome.
For house hunters on the lookout for their first-ever property, here are some of the “neighbours” that may affect their financial returns.
BURIAL GROUND
There is no evidence if we were to reside near the resting place of the dead, we would be frequented by supernatural beings. But being humans, we naturally have the fear of the unknown. Many potential tenants may think twice if they are to live in an apartment with a balcony directly facing a cemetery.
For some investors, they may see such a property as a good catch because of its “too good to be true” price. But the property’s value may not appreciate as expected and the investors could face problems getting rid of the asset in the future.
If there is no other options and you really like the property, make sure it is at least separated from the ‘unfavourable landmark’ by a busy road so that the Yin energy can be diverted.
PLACE OF WORSHIP
In Feng Shui, worship places are categorised in the Fire element. While there is an advantage for people to live near such landmarks, especially for their routine practice convenience, it can be a problem on certain occasions such as on days when the public come visiting all at once and there would be a temporary road congestion, which may be a “turnoff” for some. In this situation, Feng Shui experts recommend house owners to activate the Water element near the entrance of their house if there are any upheavals in their life.
FUEL STATIONS
Petrol stations are categorised under the Fire element. Properties that are located close to fuel sources may cause their residents to be in a stationary position when it comes to life advancement, career and health. On the contrary, it is said to be beneficial to the inhibitors of some commercial properties that are related to the fire element in their business dealings.
LRT/MONORAIL LINE
For some investors, transportation services such as light rail transit (LRT) and monorail are one of the most favoured facilities to have nearby when looking for a house because it has been proven time and again that potential renters prefer the convenience of their daily commute. However, in Feng Shui, it is not advisable to have properties near train stations or railways as they can emit the harsh qi (negative energy). Logically, staying too close to train stations can be stressful because of the noise produced throughout the day.
SCHOOLS
Without doubt families with young kids would see a house located near a school as a priority as they can save time to ship off their children or perhaps the children can walk back and forth to school with little worries. But traffic congestion during peak hours may put off tenants with no school-going children. There is no negative connotation linked to Feng Shui for living nearby a school and it is still regarded one of the best attributes for property investments.
POWER LINES
Having a house near a power station or below an electric pylon will probably make residents worry for their safety. There are concerns about electromagnetic fields which, some say, can disrupt humans’ health. Similarly in Feng Shui, electrical pillars can be very harmful to the residents of a house if they point directly to the main entrance.
