UDA to develop shop lots in Kuala Klawang

UDA Holdings Bhd (UDA) will develop cooperative retail stores under a project called UDA Niaga in Kuala Klawang, Negeri Sembilan.

The project comprises four lots of two-storey shop lots on 0.069 hectares of land owned by Koperasi Kakitangan Kerajaan Daerah Jelebu Bhd.

UDA is appointed by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC) as the turnkey developer for the project, and the funding will come from the government.

The estimated gross development cost grant is RM1.7 million and the project is expected to take eight months to complete, UDA said in a statement.

UDA said once completed, the project will be handed over to the owners of the land.

"The project is aimed to be a catalyst to help stimulate the local economy," said UDA chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.

UDA is a property developer and asset management company, under the purview of MEDAC.

According to Jalaluddin, UDA had previously developed 168 units of shop lots like UDA Niaga (formerly known as 'Kedai Desa') at 16 sites across the country using development funds from the government.

"The government has given UDA the responsibility to develop UDA Niaga in Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Pahang, Terengganu, and Kelantan. The focus of this project is to develop shop lots on land owned by the local authorities, with the local community reaping the benefits from these developments.

"The completed UDA Niaga will be handed over to the local authorities to manage the business owners and local entrepreneurs," he said.
