MANJUNG: A bedridden nonagenarian was burnt to death when the fire gutted a shop lot in Kampung Baru, Ayer Tawar here last night.
It is learnt that the victim who was identified as Loo Leng Wion, 90 was found by the firemen about four hours after the fire was doused.
Perak Fire and Rescue Services Department assistant director (operations division) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 11.41pm.
"Upon arrival, the fire damaged a two-storey Class A shop lot and damaged about 70 per cent of the building.
"The body was found at 3.35pm near a door, on the second floor and was confirmed dead by a medical staff.
"The body was handed over to the police for further action", he said, adding that the operation was also assisted by firemen from Sitiawan and Pantai Remis as well as volunteer firemen from Teluk Intan and Air Tawar.
