Norza: Stop speculating about Chong Wei's future

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria has asked for all to avoid speculating on the future of Lee Chong Wei.

Norza said Chong Wei, who suffered a shock first round exit at the World Championships in Glasgow yesterday, is a legendary figure who has contributed a lot to the sport in the country.

"We urge all to remain calm and not speculate, don't pressure him. We will discuss Chong Wei's future with him and respect any decision he makes," said Norza, when met at the Axiata Arena today.

Norza disclosed that he had spoken to Chong Wei yesterday (Tuesday) and admitted that BAM as well as fans nationwide were saddened by his first round loss.

"Of course Chong Wei is even more disappointed and sad. I tried to calm him down and told him that sometimes that is how the game is. He has already tried his best.

"I hope he will remain calm. We will discuss future plans for him when he gets back from Glasgow."

Norza said he also spoke to national head coach Datuk Misbun Sidek, who admitted that Chong Wei's game lacked pace in Scotland.

Chong Wei, who was seeded second in Glasgow, lost to Frenchman Brice Leverdez 21-19, 22-24, 21-17.
