Ee Wei anxious for BAM call up

KUALA LUMPUR: 2016 World Junior Championship bronze medalist, Toh Ee Wei, is hoping to be selected to join the national junior squad after performing well during selection at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara last week.

Ee Wei, who won bronze playing mixed doubles with Chen Tang Jie in Bilbao, Spain, managed to show her best form by winning five matches to take top spot in the women’s doubles.

"I usually partner Pearly Tan, however she is unwell. But I am happy to play well together with Ng Wan Win and win all our matches.

“Now, I am waiting for the outcome from the BA of Malaysia (BAM) and am unsure when they will announce the list of selected players,” said the 18-year-old.

According to the Melaka born player, it is hard to gauge her chances of being roped in to the national junior squad because it all depends on the coach.

"For sure I want to be selected and be able to achieve the best result in just about every championship and tournament that I take part in.

"I will also continue to work hard and strive to sharpen my game before the Asia Junior Championship and World Junior Championship later this year,” she said.

During the selection sessions carried out from last Wednesday (January 10) to Friday (January 12), more than 30 players from the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) and state associations turned up to try their luck to be selected for this year’s national junior squad.
