Tang Jie-Ee Wei make early exit from World Tour Finals

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 8 Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei were eliminated from the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou after suffering their second group stage defeat on Friday.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei went down fighting 18-21, 21-18, 21-14 to Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai in a 70-minute battle.

The defeat saw the Malaysian debutants slip to last place in Group A as they joined compatriots Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik on an early flight home.

Still, Tang Jie and Ee Wei will walk away with a cool US$17,500 (RM82,000) by virtue of qualifying for the World Tour season finale.

Tang Jie admitted that their performance is not up to the mark yet.

"We're still not that mature yet, there's still a lot to improve. Hopefully, we can get better next year," said Tang Jie.

Ee Wei lamented the unforced errors in the third game that led to their defeat.

"There were just too many simple mistakes from our side," said Ee Wei.
