BAM confident Malaysia can top Asian Team group

ALOR STAR: Team manager Datuk Ng Chin Chai believes Malaysia can top Group C of the men’s competition at the Asia Team Championships, which starts on Tuesday.

Chin Chai, also the secretary of the BA of Malaysia (BAM), said all players are in good form and are free from injuries for Tuesday’s opening tie against Thailand.

“Ong Yew Sin was down with a back injury but he has recovered. He is ready to play tomorrow,” said Chin Chai.

Chin Chai also said Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin has returned from the India Open.

“Iskandar did well in New Delhi but national singles coach Misbun Sidek has not decided whether he should play against Thailand.

“Based on the strength our men’s squad, we have a good chance of winning Group C.”

Lee Chong Wei is expected to play the opening singles match against Thailand at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium.

Misbun’s other options for singles are Lee Zii Jia and Soong Joo Ven.

Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, Teo Ee Yi-Yew Sin and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are Malaysia’s pairs for the tournament.

Other teams in Group C are Taiwan and Myanmar.
