Two Malaysian shuttlers attend match-fixing hearing today

SINGAPORE: The two Malaysian shuttlers, alleged to be involved in match-fixing, arrived at the Jen Tanglin Hotel here this morning to attend a hearing by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

The two players turned up at about 9.30am accompanied by their lawyers.

It is learnt that the players, under investigation, are to face a three-men independent panel appointed by the BWF.

The two-day hearing into the match-fixing allegation started today.

The identities of both players are yet to be announced by the BWF.

However, former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli and former Thomas Cupper Tan Chun Seang came for the hearing. Also seen at the hotel was Zulfadli's father Zulkiffli Sidek.

The reason for their presences at the hearing is not known yet.

BA of Malaysia council member Jadadish Chandra, also at the hearing as an observer, told reporters that he will make a statement after the end of today's hearing session.

The session, which started at 10am, is expected to end at around 3pm.

On Feb 13, in an exclusive report, NSTP Sport revealed that a Malaysian shuttler is under investigation over allegations of match manipulation.

BAM later confirmed that not one but two professional shuttlers were provisionally suspended from all competitions, pending an investigation.
