Disgraced shuttler Zulfadli will appeal against his match-fixing suspension

KUALA LUMPUR: Zulfadli Zulkiffli’s lawyer Datuk Joshua Kevin has confirmed that the shuttler will appeal to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) against his 20-year suspension.

The deadline for submission is at midnight on Tuesday.

"We are in the process of sending it (the appeal) and we will not miss the deadline," said Joshua.

“I can only confirm (the appeal) but I cannot comment further as this is the first (match fixing) case for BWF.

"The best thing to do is to wait and follow the guidelines."

On Sunday, BWF stated that they have yet to receive Zulfadli’s appeal. The shuttler was also fined US$25,000 (RM98,000) for fixing matches.

Failing to meet the deadline for the appeal would end any hopes of being able to challenge the ban, even if it was brought the to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Tan Chun Seang, who is also banned for match-fixing, said he was not aware of the appeal process.

"I don't know, you can ask my lawyer (Kitson Foong). He is arranging it," said Chun Seang.
