Rosman does not want to jinx pairs' chances in Korea

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite a touch of luck, national women's doubles coach Rosman Razak does not want to jinx his charges chances at the Korea Open in Seoul.

On Wednesday, national No 1 Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean checked into the second round without breaking sweat as their fifth seeded opponents, Lee So Hee-Shin Seung Chan of South Korea retired in the first game just after two minutes.

The Koreans were trailing 5-1 in the first round match.

The new pairing of Vivian Hoo and Yap Cheng Wen scored an easy 21-14, 21-12 win over Emily Kan-Isabel Zhong of the United States.

"I'm not so sure but I saw the Korean girl with a bandage around her leg. I guess she must have aggravated her injury during the match," said Rosman in Seoul on Wednesday.

"However, it is still too early to say anything. It's a tough draw, so I do not want to jinx the girls' chances in this tournament. Let them take it one match at a time."

Mei Kuan-Meng Yean will take on another Korean duo, Chang Ye Na-Jung Kyung Eun, while Vivian-Cheng Wen play Indonesia's Anggia Shitta Awanda-Ni Ketut Mahadewi Istarani next.

In the men's doubles, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik continued to impress when they upset the more fancied Bodin Isara-Maneepong Jongjit of Thailand 24-22, 26-24 in the opening round.

Aaron-Wooi Yik will play China's Huang Kaixiang-Wang Zekang of China next for a place in the quarter-finals.

The other Malaysians through to the second round were independent men's duo, Chooi Kah Ming-Low Juan Shen and professional men's singles shuttler Liew Daren.
