Aaron-Wooi Yik only a step away from All England crown

KUALA LUMPUR: Before the All England started early this week, no one gave them much of a chance.

But Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik have done Malaysia proud by storming into the All England men’s doubles final.

Ranked World No. 18, Aaron-Wooi Yik upstaged Indonesia's Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto 12-21, 22-20, 21-19 in the semi-finals on Saturday (March 9).

Aaron-Wooi Yik became the first Malaysian pair to reach the All England men’s doubles final since Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong in 2011.

“We need to stay calm and focused for the final,” said Aaron.

For the All England crown, Aaron-Wooi Yik will need to beat Indonesia’s Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan in the final today.

But the odds are against Aaron-Wooi Yik as they have been unable to overcome Ahsan-Hendra in all their previous two meetings.

Two-time world champions Ahsan-Setiawan ousted Japan's Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda 21-19, 21-16 in the semi-finals. The Indonesian duo also won the All England title in 2014.
