Duo say sorry to Liu Ying after rumours of affair with married man

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian mixed doubles queen Goh Liu Ying can finally put the sordid rumours to bed after Leonard Lim and Vivienne Chen issued an apology today after the shuttler's reputation was tarnished.

The apology came a day after Olympic silver medallist Liu Ying, 31, vehemently denied allegations that she was having an affair with a married man.

In a statement to Timesport, Leonard said: "I, Leonard Lim, am deeply sorry about all the false information made against Goh Liu Ying, which has recently been circulating on social media.

"This issue is caused by my failure to handle the problems from my former marriage with my ex-wife, who subsequently misused social media platforms to lead the public into misunderstanding that Liu Ying is a third-party of my marriage.

"In fact, my ex-wife and I legally divorced three years ago.

"With regard to the current issue which has caused reputational damage to Liu Ying, I am deeply sorry and I am willing to bear all the cost and legal responsibility incurred by the damage and loss caused to Liu Ying."

Vivienne, who had allegedly accused Liu Ying on social media, said in her statement: "I am very regretful and apologetic of my reckless behaviour on July 12 (2.30am) which affected Liu Ying's reputation.

"I will willingly bear all the legal responsibility and cost incurred from the damage and loss caused to her.

"I would like to confirm that Ms Goh Liu Ying is not a home wrecker. I should not have uploaded any post which may potentially cause damage to her image and reputation. I should not have misled the public into believing that she is a home wrecker.

"I hereby promise and guarantee that I will stop harassing Liu Ying and her family. I also promise and guarantee that I will stop making false representation that may cause the public to misunderstand Liu Ying's character.

"I will apologize personally to Liu Ying and her family."

Speaking to Timesport today, Liu Ying said she can now focus fully on her badminton career.

"I've been really busy the past few days. Things are settled, I can now concentrate on my training," she said.

Earlier this week, Liu Ying and her partner, Chan Peng Soon with six other independent players, reported for training at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara.
