KUALA LUMPUR: Rising squash star Yee Xin Ying continued her splendid form by winning back-to-back PSA Tour tournaments in the United States.

The 19-year-old, who topped the Greenwich Open on Oct 22, lived up to her top billing by winning the Burnt Open in Connecticut on Monday.

Xin Ying, currently a student at Cornell University under the guidance of coach David Palmer, demonstrated incredible resilience in the final.

Facing off against ninth seed Malak Taha of Egypt, Xin Ying battled back from the brink of defeat, prevailing 3-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-9.

En route to the final, she defeated Ukraine's Alina Bushma 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 in the semi-finals and compatriot

Vanessa Raj 11-6, 10-12, 11-5, 11-4 in the last eight.

Last year, Xin Ying, who hails from Sabah, won her maiden PSA Tour title at the New South Wales Open.

National coach Shahril Shahidan commended Xin Ying for her fighting spirit in the final.

"Xin Ying lost the opening two games but fought back to level the score. She also rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the fifth game to claim the title.

"Xin Ying demonstrated she is a true champion, giving her all to beat the Egyptian," he said.

Shahril also noted that Xin Ying, currently ranked 76th in the world, is expected to break into the top 70 in the upcoming tour rankings list, with hopes of a top 50 ranking in the near future.

Xin Ying's season will conclude at the Northern Joe Cup in Manchester, England, from Nov 22 to 26.
