Rashid's men in mood to conquer

Malaysia's shuttlers Cheah Liek Hou and Didin Taresoh are all fired up for medals at the Tokyo Paralympics.

Coach Rashid Sidek said both the players are in prime form to clear the group stages as badminton events get underway at the Yoyogi National Stadium today.

Liek Hou, who is aiming for gold, will open his campaign in Group B of the men's singles SU5 (impairment in upper body) against Egypt's Ama Eldakrory.

The other players in the group are Japan's Taiyo Imai and Taiwan's Fang Jen Yu.

Didin will begin his quest tomorrow in Group B of the men's singles SH6 (short stature) category against world No 2 K. Nagar of India and Brazil's Vitor Tavares.

"The players are in great condition and they are just raring to go," said Rashid when contacted.

"I am very confident with Liek Hou. His target is to win gold, and I believe he is set to do so here in Tokyo.

"Didin, on the other hand, has a trickier draw. He should focus on clearing the group stage first to reach the semis. Anything can happen after that," Rashid added.

In both the events, only the top two players will qualify for the knockout stage.
