Coach Kim Her returns to India badminton

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian-born coach Tan Kim Her has rejoined the BA of India (BAI) for a second stint, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) confirmed on Friday.

The 50-year-old former national player and coach has been tasked to beef up India's doubles department until the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Kim Her had served as BAI's doubles coach from 2015-2019 and was credited for the rise of world No 8 men's doubles Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty.

He then joined the Japanese national team as men's doubles coach. He had guided world No 4 Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi to the world title in Spain last year.

BAI secretary-general Ajay K Singh Asia told the Times of India: "Kim Her is well aware of the Indian Badminton ecosystem, and his inclusion will strengthen the doubles contingent even more."

Kim Her will also plan an overall coaching system and oversee coach education.

According to the Times of India, Kim Her will be required to identify Indian coaches with potential and assist in their skill development by holding four workshops each year.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if fellow Malaysian Lee Wan Wah will be promoted to lead Japan's top men's doubles pairs following Kim Her's departure.

Wan Wah, who joined the Japan national junior squad in 2019, was promoted to the national doubles B side a year later and is currently looking after the mixed doubles B team.

Another Malaysian, Jeremy Gan is in charge of Japan's mixed doubles department.
