Shuttler Kisona leaves national team, to turn pro

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Sea Games champion S. Kisona has officially left the national set up at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM).

This was confirmed by ABM singles coaching director, Wong Choong Hann, at a press conference today.

Kisona, who has been struggling with knee injuries, wants to focus on her recovery and will continue playing as a professional.

Speaking to the press, the 24-year-old women's singles who won gold at the 2019 Philippines Sea Games said: "I think it's best for me to focus on my recovery first and then start on this new journey.

"The injury this time around is not as bad, but after skipping the Malaysia International Challenge last week, I think it's better for me to focus on recovering fully before getting back on court.

"I haven't decided on my next tournament yet, but surely it will be before the start of the Olympic qualifiers (May).

"I am more flexible now, watch out for any announcement on my social media platforms."

Meanwhile, ABM also confirmed the release of 13 other players, including men's singles' Lim Chong King and women's singles' Eoon Qi Xuan to name a few.

Present at the press conference were ABM chief executive officer Michelle Chai, ABM high performance director Dr Tim Jones and ABM doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky.
