Aaron-Wooi Yik finally win their first World Tour title

KUALA LUMPUR: After years of settling for second best, world No. 4 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have finally won a World Tour title.

Playing in their seventh World Tour final, the Malaysian men's doubles duo, on Sunday, clinched the Super 750 Denmark Open crown in Odense.

In the final at the Jyske Bank Arena, the former world champions defeated Indonesia's Muhammad Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana 21-13, 21-17, thus extending their perfect winning record to four wins over the Indonesians.

"It's really special for us, we've been partners for five to six years but this is our first World Tour title.

I will always remember this day," said Wooi Yik in the post-match interview.

Aaron added: "We will take some time to enjoy this win here, it's our first World Tour title, and we hope we will go on to win more in the future.

"Next up is the French Open for us."

Aaron-Wooi Yik pocketed US$62,900 (about RM300,000) for their effort, while Shohibul-Bagas settled for US$29,750 (about RM142,000).

For the record, the last Malaysian men's doubles pair to win the Denmark Open were Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong in 2016.
