KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei marked their World Tour Finals debut with a humbling defeat at the hands of China's Feng Yan Zhe- Huang Dong Ping.
In today's Group A opener, Tang Jie-Ee Wei were outplayed 21-10, 21-13 in just 38 minutes at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei had previously stunned Yan Zhe-Dong Ping during the first round of the Thailand Open in May.
The defeat left Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who had just achieved a career-best No. 8 in the world ranking, with a mammoth task to clear the group stage.
They must beat Japan's Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino at all costs tomorrow to keep their hopes alive.
The odds are stacked against them as they have never beaten the world No. 2 in both previous meetings.
