Aaron-Wooi Yik to test 'secret weapon' at BATC

SHAH ALAM: Men's doubles Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have a "secret weapon".

However, the pair do not want to reveal anything ahead of the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC).

Aaron said the new training pattern introduced by their coaches is also to prepare them for the Paris Olympic Games on July 26-Aug 11.

The 2022 world champions are currently fifth in the Race to Paris rankings.

"I think everything is going well for now as we are going through a new training programme. We are getting used to the routine. However, we cannot share it.

"This is probably our 10th or more team tournament. I think the doubles section is more fun because we can play scratch pairs, and teammates are behind us to support us," he said at the Setia City Convention Centre here today.

The BATC will take place at the Setia City Convention Centre from tomorrow until Feb 18..

Malaysia will open their Group B campaign against Brunei tomorrow. The other teams in the group are Kazakhstan and Taiwan.

Asked if the coaching staff have any plans to test scratch pairings, BA of Malaysia coaching director Rexy Mainaky said he still does not know if they will use the strategy.

The Malaysian men's team comprise Lee Zii Jia, Ng Tze Yong, Leong Jun Hao, Eogene Ewe, Aaron-Wooi Yik, Nur Izzuddin Rumsani-Goh Sze Fei and Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri. -- BERNAMA
