Zii Jia settles out of court with Indra

KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Lee Zii Jia reached an out-of-court settlement with his former coach, Indra Wijaya, today.

The dispute between the world No. 10 and Indonesian Indra will no longer end up in a legal fight after both parties agreed to a settlement.

Indra's lawyers, in a statement to the New Straits Times, confirmed that a mutual understanding has been reached between both parties.

Below are the four points which Indra wanted to make clear, and were agreed upon by both parties:

1. In relation to the claim filed by Indra against LZJ Management, parties are pleased to inform that they have agreed to an amicable out-of-court resolution.

2. The parting ways between LZJ Management was borne purely out of consideration by Team LZJ on LZJ philosophies, methods of coaching, and training.

3.The parting of ways between LZJ Management and Indra has no bearing on Indra's methods of coaching and performance under the contract of employment.

4. Parties hope there would be no speculations or assumptions regarding this matter and wish each other well in their respective professional careers.

In January last year, Timesport reported that Indra, a former Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) coach, was going to file a lawsuit against Zii Jia after claiming to be unfairly dismissed by the shuttler's professional team, Team LZJ, in November 2022.

According to Indra, he had signed a three-year contract with Team LZJ, which the Indonesian was supposed to see out after the Paris Olympics this year.

Indra, who left BAM in February 2022 to join Zii Jia after the latter turned professional, was unceremoniously dropped nine months later.

Indra has, since then, rejoined the Indonesian Badminton Association, and is currently coaching Indonesia's No. 1 women's singles player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
