Tze Yong to go for surgery, out of the All England

KUALA LUMPUR: National men's singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong is out of the French Open and All England next month.

BAM confirmed today that the 24-year-old will undergo surgery to treat his spinal disc injury.

"Tze Yong is set to miss the upcoming All England and French Open as he continues treatment for a back injury sustained during the Asia Team Championships.

"In consultation with the medical team, Tze Yong has agreed to prioritise his recovery and will undergo surgery on his back next week. This minor surgery is expected to keep him out of action for two to six weeks.

"While Tze Yong will miss the immediate tournaments, there remains a hopeful possibility of his comeback for the Spain Masters in Madrid and the Asian Championships in Ningbo, contingent on the progression of his recovery," BAM said in its statement.

It remains to be seen if Tze Yong will have enough time to compete and collect ranking points to qualify for the Paris Olympics in July.

As it stands, Tze Yong is No. 16 on the Race to Paris standings, and will need to maintain this position until the end of the one-year Olympic qualifying period in April.
