Aaron-Wooi Yik brace for clash against Taiwan's Lee twins in Paris

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik needs to be wary of the threat posed by Taiwanese Lee twins, Fang Chih-Fang Jen, in tomorrow's (March 7) French Open second-round clash.

On paper, the world No. 5 Malaysians are the favourites, having beaten No. 24 Fang Chih-Fang Jen in their last three encounters.

However, considering their previous victories over higher-ranked pairs, the Taiwanese duo could potentially cause an upset.

Fang Chih-Fang Jen advanced to the second round with a 21-19, 21-17 victory over Malaysia's Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani at Arena Porte de la Chapelle in Paris yesterday (March 5).

Aaron-Wooi Yik progressed when Germany's Mark Lamsfuss-Marvin Seidel withdrew from their match tied 12-12 in the first game due to injury.

Despite concerns about Aaron-Wooi Yik adapting to the venue after only being on the court for 10 minutes yesterday, Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) coaching director Rexy Mainaky believes their rhythm will not be affected.

"At least, the pair was on the court to play a few points. I believe they will not have an issue with the court conditions tomorrow," said Rexy.

"They need to focus and do their best in the second round."

Compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun will also be in action in the second round tomorrow.

The World No. 18 Malaysians, who defeated Canada's Kevin Lee-Ty Alexander Lindeman 21-16, 21-8 yesterday, will have their hands full against world No. 1 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty.
