Srikanth spoils Zii Jia's birthday gift bid at Swiss Open [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 10 Lee Zii Jia's journey at the Swiss Open ended after being eliminated in the second round on Thursday.

The top seeded Zii Jia was stunned 21-16, 21-15 by India's K. Srikanth, his first defeat in three meetings against the former world No. 1.

This uncharacteristic exit once again raises a big question mark to Zii Jia's ability to challenge for podium at the Paris Olympics in four months time.

Zii Jia has yet to underline his credentials after managing just three quarter-finals in six World Tour appearances this year.

The Malaysian was seeking a perfect present to mark his 26th birthday on March 29.

In mixed doubles, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei continued their march but it was the end of the road for Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See.

Third seeds Tang Jie-Ee Wei dispatched India's K. Sathish Kumar -Aadya Variyath 21-17, 21-14 and will meet Thailand's Supak Jomkoh-Supissara Paewsampran next.

Peng Soon-Yee See put up a valiant fight before losing 24-22, 11-21, 21-19 to world No. 11 Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito of Japan.
