Yew Sin-Ee Yi have much to offer after Olympic setback

KUALA LUMPUR: Missing the opportunity to qualify for the Paris Olympics is not the end of the world for independent men's pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi.

Their coach, Rosman Razak, said the world No. 12 must move on from their disappointment as they still have plenty to fight for, including making the team for the Thomas Cup in Chengdu, China, this month (April 27-May 5).

Yew Sin-Ee Yi are in Ningbo, China, for the Asian Championships and will face Japan's Ayato Endo and Yuta Takei in the opening round.

"To say they are not disappointed to miss out on the Paris Olympics would be a lie. That was their dream. However, life must go on," said Rosman recently.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi must continue to play well and improve their ranking, to fight and not lose their momentum."

When asked about the Asian Championships and what he expects, Rosman added: "Yew Sin-Ee Yi should not underestimate any pair during the tournament.

"There are very small margins in the men's doubles event today. The best pair on the day wins it."

Should Yew Sin-Ee Yi clear the first round, they will likely face China's world No. 3 Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang.

The other men's pairs in the fray are former world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.

Fourth seeds Aaron-Wooi Yik will face a qualifier in the opening round, while Wei Chong-Kai Wun take on China's Chen Bo Yang-Liu Yi.

However, Sze Fei-Izzuddin face a tall order as they are up against world No. 2 Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae of South Korea.
