Sze Fei gets BAC booster for Thomas Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Reaching the final of the Asian Championships (BAC) two weeks ago has injected more confidence into men's doubles player, Goh Sze Fei, ahead of the Thomas Cup in Chengdu, China, this week.

Malaysia face a tough task as they must beat Hong Kong in the opening Group D match on Saturday to brighten their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

Sze Fei, who partners Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, said finishing second at the BAC in Ningbo, China, has boosted his confidence and given him a sense of responsibility to the team.

"For me, the runner-up achievement at the BAC is a huge confidence boost.

"Next up is the Thomas Cup. I consider it necessary to be more responsible not only for myself but also for the team," he said.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin are seen as one of the mainstays to collect points against Hong Kong as the world No. 15 will take to the court as the second men's pair after former world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik.

The other teams in Malaysia's group are European champions Denmark and Algeria.
