CHITTAGONG: Shakib Al Hasan claimed two wickets in his first over as Bangladesh struck back with spin after being dismissed for 324 in the first innings of the first Test against West Indies on Friday.
West Indies stuttered to 54 for three by lunch on the second day in Chittagong, after Shakib dismissed Shai Hope (one) and Kraigg Brathwaite (13) at the start of his spell and Taijul Islam removed Kieran Powell for 14.
Roston Chase saw off the session with 19 not out alongside Sunil Ambris, who was batting on four after being dropped twice.
Shakib could have had two more wickets but Mushfiqur Rahim put down Ambris on nought, and Mustafizur Rahman grassed a simple chance at square leg when the batsman was on four.
Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican took the remaining two Bangladeshi wickets early on the second day as the hosts added just nine runs to their overnight score before being bowled out.
Warrican dismissed overnight batsman Nayeem Hasan for 26 and trapped Mustafizur leg-before three balls later to bowl out the Tigers inside the first five overs of the morning.
Taijul remained unbeaten on 39 as Warrican finished with 4-62, his best bowling figures in Test cricket.
Bangladesh owed their first-innings score to Mominul Haque, who struck 120 off 167 balls while Imrul Kayes and Shakib made 44 and 34 respectively. -- AFP
