Captain Marvel Ahmad to hang up his bat

KUALA LUMPUR: Ahmad Faiz who skippered the country to a gold (T20i format) and a silver (50 Overs format) at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Sea Games, will retire after the Malaysia Open T20i from March 5-12.

Virandeep Singh, 24, will take over as the captain of the national cricket team.

Known as Captain Marvel,

Ahmad's consistency and temperament are some of his best attributes which glued the team together, leading Malaysia to be in the top 25 ICC World Rankings.

Ahmad, 37, who will hang up his bat after 11 years, said: "The time is right for the baton to be passed on, and I'm honoured to hand over the reins to Virandeep, a talented player who is much sought after."

Virandeep, who is 83rd under the ICC T20i All Rounder Rankings, said: "It's an absolute honour to be given an opportunity to lead the country. I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead."
