National cyclist Fauzan wins NST C-Cycle Challenge 2017

SHAH ALAM: National cyclist, Muhammad Fauzan Ahmad Lufti won first place in the Men’s Open of the New Straits Times (NST) C-Cycle Challenge 2017 at Eco Grandeur, Puncak Alam here today.

Fauzan, who finished the 160km race within three hours and 37 minutes, bagged RM2,500 cash.

The cyclist said that the route was quite challenging especially with the strong winds today.

“There were very few hills throughout the 160km route, however we were forced to cycle against the strong winds on many of the locations,” he said.

Trailing six seconds behind Fauzan was Mohd Azri Ahmad, while Nik Mohd Azwan Zulkifle came in third on +1:47.

Under the Women’s Open, the first place was won by Thai cyclist, Supuksorn Nuntana, who clocked in three hours and 48 minutes.

Supuksorn, who was in Malaysia for the SEA Games, however said that the route was not as challenging for she is used to hilly routes.

Trailing close behind Supuksorn was Noor Azian Alias, and in third, was Mariana Mohammad.

As for the Senior Men’s Open, Surachet Sing-Jui clocked in three hours and 48 minutes to take the first place. Just 18s behind was Mohd Zukri Tahir and losing by 20s was Azizulazli Shaari.

The first, second and third place winners for the Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Senior Men’s Open categories received cash prizes of RM2,500, RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively.

Meanwhile, under the Team Open category, Kotasas Cycling Team emerged as the first place winner and took home RM4,500 cash prize.

In second place with RM3,500 cash prize was Team Dagoo Bike, while Amaniz Cycling Team came in third to sweep the RM3,000 cash prize.
