Malaysia ready to get support from Asian powerhouses

MALAYSIA is prepared to gather support from Asian powerhouses Japan, China, South Korea, Hong Kong and Iran to put pressure on Indonesia to include the three key track cycling disciplines it has dropped from the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.

Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) executive council member Datuk Amarjit Singh said he had already received enquiries from a number of countries regarding the status of the three events - keirin, individual sprint and team sprint -  at the Asiad.

"Datuk Abu Samah Wahab (Malaysian National Cycling Federation president) and myself are willing to gather support from these countries," said Amarjit, who is also MNCF vice president.

"I believe many countries in Asia are eager to see the keirin and sprint events being included in the Asian Games. I understand that Japan, South Korea, China and Hong Kong are looking at this issue closely.

"Thailand has also expressed its regret that Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organising Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia have sidelined the three major Olympic events.

"We can work together with them to ensure these three events will be included again.”

Amarjit added that the exclusion of the three events would be a step back as they were included in both the 2010 (Guangzhou) and 2014 Incheon Games.
