MNCF: Please pay up immediately

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) will be sending out letters to remind any cycling race organisers in the country to make payments of prize money immediately to the winners.

MNCF president, Datuk Abu Samah Wahab said that the reminders are to ensure that organisers do not exceed the period of 60 days as stipulated by the International Cycling Union (UCI).

“UCI’s rules are quite simple really, race organisers must deposit the money (prize money) a month before the race begins. But we have given some leeway because many have said that they haven’t got the sponsorships in full.

“For LTdL (Le Tour de Langkawi) I heard that some have been paid while some others have not. So perhaps we will send out letters to remind them not to exceed the 60 day period,” he said when met after the officiating ceremony for the Le Tour de Femina here earlier today (Friday).

Abu Samah was speaking with regards to claims that there are riders who have yet to receive their prize money for their achievements in this year’s edition of the LTdL.

At the same time, Abu Samah stressed that the Le Tour de Femina race will be registered in UCI’s calendar of events within the near future after payment for the penalty has been made because of the lateness in registering the organising of the race.

“It’s not in the UCI calendar just yet but we’ve sent in an application and we have been told that there is a penalty. Once we have paid for the penalty then they will register the race.

“If they did not want to register it in the first place then they would have just rejected it,” he said.
