PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) organiser Human Voyage Sdn Bhd has already got the ball rolling as it plans to bring in more WorldTeams for next year’s race.
Human Voyage chief operating officer Shahaizereen A. Hamid confirmed that two WorldTeams have already locked down their spots.
“They (two WorldTeams) have confirmed this with us. I can’t disclose their names for now, but they are both from Europe,” said Shahaizereen in Langkawi on Friday.
“LTdL was a hit on social media this year, and I think a lot of teams have realised that we have a good event here.
“NTT Pro Cycling have also expressed that they are keen to return next year.
“Hopefully, we will be able to secure better teams and riders for 2021.”
NTT were the only WorldTeam who featured this year. There were also six ProTeams (second tier) while the rest comprised continental and national teams.
Shahaizereen was relieved that this year’s race went smoothly. He also praised the Malaysian teams and riders for making a mark.
Harrif Saleh of Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) won two stages this year while Team Sapura Cycling successfully defended the yellow jersey through their Italian rider Danilo Celano and also took the red jersey via Nur Aiman Zariff.
“The president of the commissaire panel (PCP), who will report to the UCI, has reacted positively to the race. We had no major issues throughout the event.
“We will also be conducting a post-mortem with the Sports Ministry and will see which areas we can improve on for next year,” he added.
