TSG hit a double high in Grand Prix of Gundogmus

TERENGGANU Cycling Team (TSG) capped their Turkish outing on a high by notching a well-deserved 1-2 finish at the Grand Prix of Gundogmus on Sunday.

TSG's Carlos Quintero launched a well-timed attack late in the race, which secured the Colombian victory in two hours, 41 minutes and one second.

Teammate Metkel Eyob (Eritrea) took second (+15s), while Panama Cultura Y Valores' Franklin Archibold (+16s) completed the podium in the 103.5-kilometre one-day race.

TSG's Artem Ovechkin of Russia was 22nd (+1:00s), while Nur Aiman Zariff and Goh Choon Huat finished out of the top-50 after putting in their shifts earlier in the race.

It was Quintero's second win on Turkish soil after the Velo Alanya GP a fortnight ago.

"It feels unbelievable to win again, and this victory is for the team," said Quintero.

"We worked well together as a team today (Sunday). With 15 kilometres to go, I attacked, and it all went well."

TSG won three out of the six one-day races (UCI 1.2 events) in Turkey.

The other win came via sprinter Harrif Saleh at the Velo Manavgat GP two weeks ago.

It was a historic victory as he was the first Malaysian to win an UCI classified European road race.

The TSG squad will take a short competitive break before returning to action at the Tour of Thailand and Tour of Rwanda in May.
