TSG's Amirull completes National Championships hat-trick

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu Cycling Team's (TSG) Nur Amirull Fakhruddin Mazuki proved he remains a formidable force after claiming his third National Road Cycling Championships title in Kuala Kubu Baru today.

The 32-year-old outkicked Malaysia Pro Cycling's (MPC) Zawawi Azman in an uphill sprint finish to claim the win in four hours, 13 minutes and 13 seconds.

Amirull's teammate Nur Aiman Rosli completed the podium after crossing the line third, 50 seconds adrift of the leading duo.

MPC's Akmal Hakim Zakaria and TSG's Zuladri Amin Zulkarnain (both +2:36s) were fourth and fifth in the 170.1km race.

Amirull, who previously won the event in 2015 and 2019, was all smiles after the race.

Nur Aiman Zariff (TSG), who won the race last year, crossed the line 10th (+5:15s) this time.

"The preparation we put in for this race has paid of as we have achieved our target of retaining the title won by Aiman last year," said Amirull.

"It was a tough fight against Zawawi, he is a very experienced and strong rider.

"I have to thank my team for giving me countless opportunities as well as my family for their support. As a rider, I have done my best for my team and my state."

Amirull has raced for TSG since its inception in 2011.

He won gold (road race) and silver (criterium) at last year's Phnom Penh SEA Games.
