LTdL will go on as scheduled

KUALA LUMPUR: Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) will go on as scheduled, although the prestigious race has been removed from the UCI calendar.

Malaysia National Cycling Federation (MNCF) vice president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill assured the race will take place from Sept 23-30.

"We are quite sure the race will go on," said Amarjit.

Amarjit said he will get a clearer picture of LTdL's UCI status during the world body's board meeting in Glasgow.

The UCI ProSeries tour event will be organised by the National Sports Council this year.

MNCF president Datuk Abu Samah Wahab had said earlier this month that he feared LTdL would be removed from the UCI calendar next year due to unpaid money to teams from last year's event for appearance fees and flight tickets.

According to a source, UCI took drastic action following complaints from the teams.

Amarjit said he was aware of the issue and measures were taken to solve the matter.
