Team sprint quartet clinch bronze at para-cycling world meet

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian riders did the nation proud by clinching bronze in the mixed B (visual impairment) team sprint event at the Para-cycling Track World Championships in Glasgow yesterday.

Nur Suraiya Zamri-Farina Shawati Adnan (pilot) and Khairul Hazwan Wahab-Khairul Adha Rasol (pilot) clocked 51.393 seconds to defeat United States (51.990s) in the third place decider at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

United States were represented by Hannah Chadwick-Skyler Espinoza (pilot) and Michael Stephens-Joe Christiansen (pilot).

Malaysia had earlier qualified third after clocking 51.698s.

Gold went to Great Britain (49.992s) who defeated Italy (51.264s) in the final.

Britain were represented by Neil Fachie-Matthew Rotherham (pilot) and Elizabeth Jordan-Amy Cole (pilot) while Italy featured Chiara Colombo-Elena Bissolati (pilot) and Stefano Meroni-Francisco Ceci (pilot).

The Para world meet is running concurrently at the same velodrome with the able-bodied world championships in Glasgow.
