Malaysia climb to 155th spot in latest FIFA ranking

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia moved up three spots in the latest Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) ranking from 158 to 155 in the latest list released yesterday.

According to FIFA's official website www.fifa.com, Malaysia has accumulated 148 points despite not having played any international games for the past two months while the last match played was a goalless draw against the Philippines on March 22.

Malaysia is now on par with minnows like Papua New Guinea (153), Chad (154), Maldives (155) and Singapore (156).

Malaysia can further improve their standing if the squad under newly appointed Portuguese coach Nelo Vingada achieves positive results in the 2019 Asian Cup qualifying match against Lebanon on June 13.

Meanwhile, no big changes were recorded among the top 10 teams this month, except Poland who climbed one rung to share 10th spot with Spain while Brazil top the table ahead of neighbour Argentina followed by Germany and Chile. The monthly ranking involves 206 countries. -- BERNAMA
