JDT inch closer to Super League title with Perak win

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim are on the brink of sealing a fourth consecutive Super League title after defeating Perak 2-1 in Johor Baru on Wednesday.

The win preserved an 11-point lead over second-placed Kedah, who kept alive their faint title hopes with a 5-0 rout of Kelantan in Alor Star.

However, with only four games remaining, Darul Ta'zim can celebrate their title success on Aug 5 by beating Selangor in Selayang.

Perak stunned the Larkin Stadium crowd when Hafiz Kamal scored in the 45th minute but Darul Ta'zim were level just two minutes after the break through Fadhli Shas.

Mohammed Ghaddar then netted his 23rd league goal of the season on the hour-mark to secure three points for the home team.

Kedah ran riot in the second half at the Darulaman Stadium after leading just 1-0 at half-time thanks to Ariff Farhan Isa's eighth-minute goal.

Ken Ilso and Sandro Da Silva Mendonca scored twice each to leave Kedah still clinging to hope that Darul Ta'zim will stumble in the home straight.

Bottom-side Penang threw themselves a lifeline with a 2-0 win over third-placed Pahang in Batu Kawan to move within three points of safety after goals by Mark Hartmann and Sanna Nyassi in each half.

Melaka moved out of the relegation zone with a 4-2 win over Sarawak, who dropped to second-bottom just a point behind their conquerors, at the Hang Jebat Stadium.

Felda United climbed to fourth with a 3-1 win over Selangor in Jengka after three goals were scored in a five-minute span before half-time.

Thiago Augusto Fernandes and Ifedayo Omosuyi gave Felda a 2-0 lead before Francis Doe reduced the deficit in stoppage-time but former Selangor captain Shukor Adan ended the visitors' fightback with a 76th-minute strike.

PKNS down Kuala Terengganu T-Team 2-1 in Shah Alam to move into the relative safety of mid-table.
