Firecrackers hurled into audience at M'sia Cup semi-final; two injured

IPOH: Two people were injured by firecrackers hurled into the bleachers of the Perak Stadium at the end of the Perak-JDT Malaysia Cup semi-final here last night.

The injured are a football fan and a policeman, who were also caught up in the ensuing commotion.

"Several arrests were made, including those suspected of hurling the lit firecrackers," Ipoh district police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong told reporters at the stadium.

He said some 1,000 policemen, including personnel from the Federal Reserve Unit, managed to disperse fans at around 12.15am.

"Based on our observation, the commotion involved home supporters. Most of the visiting fans had already left the stadium in buses earlier," he added.
