Khairy lauds Cheng Hoe's appointment

KUALA LUMPUR: Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin lauded the appointment of Tan Cheng Hoe as the new national coach to replace Portuguese Nelo Vingada.

"Perhaps he (Vingada) himself felt that he could not fulfill what was expected of him.

"Let us give Cheng Hoe a chance first,” he said after the sponsorship signing ceremony between 100Plus and the Kuala Lumpur Sports City (KLSC) in Bukit Jalil here yesterday.

Cheng Hoe who is the former assistant national coach and former Kedah coach, has been given the job of replacing the experienced Vingada who resigned last week.

Meanwhile, Khairy said that the Malaysia Games organising committee have decided that the Games will have 29 different types of sports to be contested, which will be held in Perak next September.

"There will be 428 events proposed for competition for the Games which will take place from September 12 to 22 and I have asked the National Sports Council to manage and oversee such a proposal.

“A couple of sports will not be held for the Malaysia Games but the youth level championship will be organised during the same period as the Malaysia Games, he said.
