Will Selangor hire Hodak following Cheng Hoe's departure?

KUALA LUMPUR: Former JDT coach Bojan Hodak may take over as Selangor head coach following Tan Cheng Hoe's surprise departure.

Kedah's Nafuzi Zain is also one of the coaches shortlisted for the job.

With JDT loaning out players to several clubs for the upcoming M-League season, Selangor need an experienced coach like Hodak to guide them through the season and maybe upset the form book by edging the Southern Tigers to titles.

Hodak, who is coaching Persib Bandung in the Indonesian league, is arguably one of the best coaches in the region.

The Croatian has won every major title in the M-League, including the FA Cup, Super League and Malaysia Cup, with JDT, Kelantan and KL City.

Hodak was linked to Selangor several seasons ago, but the move did not materialise.

Cheng Hoe and Selangor mutually agreed to part ways today.

According to a press release issued by Selangor, Cheng Hoe will join a club in Thailand.

Following his departure, assistant coach Nidzam Jamil will undertake interim duties until the Red Giants hire a new coach.

"Selangor have received compensation based on Cheng Hoe's contract. We thank Cheng Hoe for his efforts and contributions to the club and wish him success in the future."

"Nidzam Jamil will undertake interim duties. We will conduct a detailed selection process to appoint a new head coach," said Selangor.

Under Cheng Hoe, Selangor finished runners-up in the 2022 Malaysia Cup and 2023 Super League.
