Selangor still have hope of using Shah Alam Stadium

KUALA LUMPUR: Chances of Selangor returning to use the Shah Alam Stadium as their official home venue for the upcoming Malaysian Super League season are not totally lost.

This development was made known by Selangor’s Permanent Committee chairman for youth development, sports, culture and entrepreneurial development, Amirudin Shari when contacted earlier today.

He said there is still room for discussion between the state government and the FA of Selangor (FAS) with regards to the use of Stadium Keramat as the home venue for The Red Giants squad.

“There has been no directive on whether Selangor can use the Shah Alam Stadium or not because this matter needs to be discussed first together with Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“So, we will discuss first and see the developments afterwards. If from my point of view, there is still hope for Selangor to play at the stadium. Anyway the Malaysian Super League will not be kicking off anytime soon.

“Whatever it is, the decision for now remains the same as stated before this where it is the state government’s policy and our principle of giving to the side or party that works together easily with us,” he said while congratulating the FAS on their success in getting the green light for the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil as their official home venue for next season.

The 33 time Malaysia Cup champions once more had to use other stadiums after facing difficulty in getting permission to use the Shah Alam Stadium following conflict between the state football association and the state government since last season.

However, they managed to breathe a huge sigh of relief after the red and yellow squad managed to get a ‘new’ home venue after getting the go-ahead to use the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil for next season.

FAS president, Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said that they had been given the green light by the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (MSC) and are awaiting approval from Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP).

"Apart from applying to use Shah Alam Stadium, we also applied to use the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil as our home venue and I am happy to announce that we have already received the approval today,” he said yesterday.
