Sarawak FA to investigate alleged match-fixing

KUCHING: After kicking-off to an encouraging start with a win and a tie for their first and second match respectively in the Premier League, Sarawak fumbled with 2-3 defeat against Felcra United on Saturday.

The Football Association of Sarawak, however, suspected something amiss following the dismal performance by the team during its third match in the league at Stadium Negeri here.

In a statement today, the association said it has received reports claiming that a number of players were involved in match-fixing and viewed the matter seriously.

It has launched an internal probe to investigate the allegation.

“FA Sarawak president Datuk Posa Majais has instructed the team manager, Wahab Abdul Rahim, to lead the internal probe.

“The association will not hesitate to take legal action and if it is true, the players involved (in the match-fixing) will be suspended from the team,” the statement said.

The association did not indicate the actual number of players currently under probe.
