FMLLP will meet FAS over match-fixing claims

KUALA LUMPUR: Football Malaysia LLP (FMLLP) are shocked by the statement issued by the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) on Sunday over match-fixing claims.

In FAS' statement, issued on its Facebook page, the association claimed that it has received reports that some players are involved in football corruption following the defeat to Felcra in Saturday's Premier League match in Kuching.

Sarawak led 2-0 before Felcra netted late goals to win 3-2.

FAS have launched an internal probe to investigate the allegation.

FMLLP chief executive officer Kevin Ramalingam said: "It is shocking but FAS should have gone through proper channels within FMLLP and the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) first before issuing a press statement."

"Our legal and integrity units have contacted FAS. Our personnel will head to Kuching as soon as possible to meet FAS," said Kevin on Monday.

"We hope to get to the bottom of this before the end of the day.

"We hope FAS can back their claims with solid reasons as issuing a statement without proper data can be damaging for our football.

"We can also take action if the allegations are untrue as this matter should have been brought up first through proper channels.

"Football is a weird game and it is normal for a small team to upset a big club.

"Many teams have scored dramatic late goals in football and won matches.

"Do not get me wrong. We are against match-fixing and if FAS' allegation is true, we will not hide it."

It is learnt that Sarawak fans, who were unhappy with the defeat to Felcra, had urged FAS to investigate.
