Up to FMLLP and FAM to punish errant teams, says AFC

KUALA LUMPUR: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will not intervene if the Football Malaysia LLP (FMLLP) decide to dock points or hand out other sanctions to M-League teams who fail to submit their completed registration documents within the deadline.

AFC secretary general Datuk Windsor Paul John said such actions are not an issue as they are carried out based on the domestic league’s rules and regulations.

"These rules are in place to take care of domestic issues. Rules are rules and they must be enforced," said Windsor on Tuesday.

"The FA of Malaysia (FAM) or FMLLP as the M-League administrators can take whatever action they believe can help them."

On Monday, FMLLP revealed that four Super League and six Premier League teams failed to meet the deadline for the submission of required documents.

Teams are supposed to submit statements of players’ salaries, contributions to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), income tax and Socso to FMLLP before the start of the season for approval.

Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur submitted incomplete documents while Selangor and PKNS did so after the deadline.

Premier League’s Penang, Kuantan FA, Sarawak and Police did not complete theirs while Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and MIFA also missed the deadline.

The last day for submission was Dec 29 last year but it was extended twice — to Jan 14 and Feb 3 this year.

These teams are now in danger of being docked points. They may also be handed transfer bans.

Last season, T-Team, Kelantan, Perlis and Armed Forces were docked points for a similar offence.
