Maciel has two games to reverse KL's fortunes

KUALA LUMPUR: Fabio Maciel has two home games over the next fortnight to reverse Kuala Lumpur's fortunes before the Super League side contemplate a change.

Three defeats in four matches left KL rooted to the bottom of the Super League standings with three points, which ironically came from a 1-0 win over champions Johor Darul Ta'zim.

But defeats to Selangor (2-0), Negri Sembilan (2-0) and Perak SEDC (2-1) left Maciel facing criticism over his team selection.

Goalkeeper Kamarul Effandi Rahim copped most of the fans' ire after letting the ball slip through his legs against Perak SEDC in Batu Kawan last weekend while midfielder Junior Aparecido continues to underperform.

Fans have been clambering for national Under-23 player Irfan Zakaria to be given a chance in place of Brazillian Junior after KL created few opportunities to threaten Perak SEDC.

Kuala Lumpur FA general secretary Nokman Mustaffa said KL's performances have worried president Datuk Seri Adnan Md Ikshan, who plans to meet with Maciel soon to express his concern.

But contrary to speculation, Maciel is not on the verge of being sacked with the Brazilian, who led KL to the Premier League title last year, to be given a chance to turn things around starting with Saturday's FA Cup second round tie against Kuching in Cheras on Saturday.

"The team's poor run of results is a concern and the president is planning to have a talk with the coach and players soon," said Nokman.

"But it is too early to say if any action is required at this stage as KL have two home games coming up. We will see what happens in this two matches first before taking action."

After Kuching, KL return to league duty on Mar 10 against Kedah in Cheras and have a tentative FA Cup third round tie to play the following weekend if they get past FAM Cup side Kuching.

However, it is the game against Kedah where KL have to produce a result after Maciel expressed his disappointment over his team's performance against Perak SEDC where Paulo Josue struck the crossbar with a free-kick with the score still 0-0.

"There is no need to panic because the gap to the teams above us is small and we can catch them," he said.
